Since they considered it as an investment more than anything else, their main request was to fully refurbish it on a very limited budget. With this restriction in mind we focused on only one structural intervention. Opening up the claustrophobic entrance hallway and kitchen to the living area. This created more generous communal quarters, overlooking the rear rooftop views and flooded the space with the warm south eastern light.

Despite its small footprint, we wanted to differentiate the three main areas of the flat. The entrance/cloackroom, kitchen/living and bedroom/ensuite. We therefore used one material, the london underground tile, in three different colours, one for each area. For the much needed storage fittings we added colour coordinated joinery with oak timber flooring as the subtle background.
